Grandma Bannister turned 90 on April 1st! (No April fools, I'm serious!) Mom, Aunt Jan, and I decided to surprise her for her birthday - we flew to Florida to visit her. We told Grandpa so at least one person would know we were coming...but then it turned out that my mom only told him that she was coming, so he didn't know about the other two of us. We flew into Orlando on Monday morning. We rented a car and drove to Haines City - about 40 minutes. Mom called when we were close to their house to find out if they had eaten lunch because we were going to grab some food for ourselves and would get some for them if they hadn't eaten. It turned out that they were eating right then. Mom told Gram that she had picked me up and we were going to lunch together. Gram asked where and mom said "Some chicken place" (because it would have been obvious that we weren't near home if she said Popeye's since there isn't one near us). Five minutes later, we showed up at her door : ) She was so surprised that she cried!
We spent much of our time sitting around talking. When Grandpa would share memories from when he was little, mom or I would type them on her computer. She wants to document as much of his past as possible. We got lots of sunshine - it was like 87 both days! On Gram's birthday, we ate at one of her favorite restaurants, The Windmill.

I saw 3 alligators (at 3 separate times) in the creek right next to their house. One was a baby, one was a teen, and one was an adult.

It was wonderful to get sunshine and just relax. It was even more wonderful to see Grandma and Grandpa since I haven't seen them since New Years.

Gram got TONS of phone calls and cards. She also got four separate deliveries of flowers! It was really pretty amazing...but then again, it's special to make it to your 90th Birthday!
